Building Business

Course Description

This class prepares students for the life of work and business through experiences running small business operations on the school campus. Students are exposed to personal finance, money management, banking and building blocks for managing life. Students also learn about the four basic operations of business and explore the free enterprise system. Students utilize productivity software programs to assist them in completing a their work products. Students use these tools to run a small business. Students will have opportunities to voyage outside of Monarch to participate in trade shows, convention, and other business meetings that will develop teamwork and experience working directly with customers.

Students at the novice level are exposed to the following working individually and in small groups with a staff member:

  • Following directions to complete a task.
  • Prepare lists and procedures to organize work.
  • Uses computer equipment to increase productivity.
  • Labels and recognizes materials appropriately.
  • Understand the steps of a process from initiation to completion.

Students at the apprentice level are exposed to the following working individually and in small groups with a staff member:

  • Following directions to complete a task.
  • Works cooperatively as a team member.
  • Uses the steps of a process to ensure quality products.
  • Practicing good work ethics including behavior, collaboration, adaptability, flexibility, punctuality, reliability.
  • Uses executive functioning to anticipate and complete similar business functions.
  • Uses multiple strategies for problem solving.
