Steps to Success
Course Description
Students explore decision-making and choices in the path to success using experiences of successful business leaders, entrepreneurs, and other mentors. Students are exposed to personal strategies including decision making, planning, time management, personal organization & communication skills. Lessons include student exploration into the lives of individuals and ways that they have affected the lives of others. Students work to apply this information in their own lives. This course integrates business speakers from the community interested in sharing experiences, skills and life lessons with students.
Students at the novice level are exposed to the following working individually and in small groups with a staff member:
- Identifies problems and discusses possible solutions.
- Uses language to communicate understanding.
- Understands how to make decisions.
- Understands and applies goal setting strategies
- Displays appropriate work behavior
Students at the apprentice level are exposed to the following vocational and life skills working in small groups:
- Understands problem-solving techniques.
- Researching information and preparing reports.
- Applies success strategies to personal goals and skills
- Understands and practices appropriate workplace behavior.
- Presents information in a clear and concise manner.
- Understands and applies appropriate use of equipment.
- Uses technology to gather and present information.
Students at the challenger level are exposed to the following skills working in small and large groups:
- Understands perspectives of others.
- Analyze problems and decisions made that created turning points.
- Applies information about skills and strengths to future needs and goals.
- Manages work to increase productivity and efficiency.
- Uses executive functioning to plan and coordinate with others.
- Relates with others with appropriate dialogue and non-verbal behavior.
- Presents information using multimedia resources.
- Demonstrates qualities of good leaders and followers.
