Making Time for Change
On February 4th, 2009, our Christopher Perri, MS/LMSW, represented The Monarch School at Voices for Change Day (formerly Children's Advocacy Day) in Austin. He joined over 600 advocates, parents and youth at the capitol with the intention of helping our legislators to Put Kids First for the current legislative session. Mr. Perri met with several legislators and presented them with up-to-date information about children’s mental health concerns in the state of Texas, encouraging them to consider the recommendations of an in-depth forum that was led by Texans Care for Children over the last two years. Those recommendations include targeted increases in funding, more services for children with mental illness in the juvenile justice system, and the creation of an inter-agency strategic plan for mental health services in the state of Texas. Mr. Perri would like to thank everyone who already took the Put Kids First Pledge and hopes others will not only do so, but also take a moment to contact your legislators and let them know that children’s mental health issues need to be a priority for the future of Texas!
