-97: Dr. Marty Webb, Head of School and Beverly Svoboda, Development Director worked fulltime in Dr. Webb’s garage to lay the foundation for the school, without drawing a salary!
-98: The Houston Mennonite Church on Wirt Road rented us some of their property, on which we added 3 modular buildings, and Monarch began!
-99: We fully landscaped the campus with native plants, and installed outdoor canvas art.
-00: Students and faculty built the outdoor pond; grass was planted, and we added a baseball diamond with backstop.
-01: Trails were added to wooded area by Michael Sarahan (Eagle Scout project), and mapped and marked by students.
-02: Having outgrown our modular buildings and all of the Mennonite Church classrooms, we added a second site, the “Craig and Lee Williams Challenger Campus”, leasing two office suites in a business park down the road from our original site.
-04: A third suite was leased and renovations planned, and outdoor murals were replaced with chalkboard material for outdoor classroom use.
-05: The Monarch Learning Center and Life Academy renovations were completed with help from parents, students and faculty. We were informed that our lease would not be renewed after 2008. We began looking in earnest for a new home.
-08: We broke ground for The Chrysalis Building at our new campus in March!
-10: We moved into our beautiful new home on Rosefield Drive in August 2009, and the transition was incredibly smooth, with very few surprises. With nearly twice the square footage of our rental properties, we still feel snug, and are hard at work raising the funds to complete this phase and move on to the next!
After months of eager preparation The Monarch School’s new campus was joyfully dedicated on November 10, 2009, a day marked by a brilliant blue sky, a crowd of over 400 enthusiastic parents, students, friends and supporters and enough energy to light up all of Houston! |
