Board Fellow: 2016-2017 Term

Question:

What originally inspired you to serve the Monarch board as a Fellow?

Answer:

Many of my most memorable contributions come from serving others. I continue to be inspired to get involved with organizations like Monarch. I’ve served public education in the past by teaching financial literacy and entrepreneurship in grade school classrooms through the Junior Achievement organization. Giving back gives me a sense of purpose and satisfaction unmatched by anything else I’ve ever done. While earning my Rice MBA, I was given the opportunity to serve as a Board Fellow for the Monarch School and Institute. I immediately jumped at the opportunity. I am excited to learn about non-profit board governance and to offer my skills acquired through the Rice MBA experience. I firmly believe that education is the key to unlocking an individual’s potential. It’s truly inspiring to be involved with an organization that exists to empower individuals.

The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson
