Julie Maru is originally from Houston and returned in 2005 after living in various parts of California for 15 years. She received a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Cultural Anthropology from UCLA where she first began working with children with neurological differences. She was trained at the Lovaas Institute for Early Intervention and subsequently worked for five years with children with autism. In addition, she served for several years as a volunteer mentor/tutor for underprivileged youth in the Los Angeles area.

In 2012, Julie completed a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology at the University of Houston. She served as a Professional Educator, Mentor for eight years in the Chrysalis program and has served as a member of the Integrated Learning Practice team since 2013. She continues to feel excited to be a part of such a progressive, innovative school where children are valued, respected and given an array of opportunities in order to learn and grow academically and socially. She is also the proud mother of a daughter named Asha, and a son named Shaan.

Julie says, “My hope is that I can influence and benefit the lives of the children with whom I work as much as they do mine.”
