Judi L. Van Horn, B.A.

Professional Educators

Judi is a veteran educator with 40 years of varied experiences. She received her BA in Comprehensive Home Economics in 1978. Relocating to Houston, Texas in 1982, Judi was hired by Spring Branch ISD to help build the foundation for the Pre-Lab Child Care Program, as well as the district’s Child Care Center. She served the district as a high school Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher for 7 years. In 1985 she accepted a position in special education, obtaining her certification in Vocational Education for the Handicapped and Coordinated Vocational Academic Education. With a strong interest in child development, Judi furthered her education to include a certification in Early Childhood, and a M.Ed. in Educational Psychology. Driven by her love of the profession, she has served as a supervising teacher for student teachers, district lead mentor, as well as a Language Arts Instructional Coach for Special Education, Gifted/Talented Education, and Early Childhood Education.

Post-retirement, she served Spring Branch as the Early Childhood District Mentor for Balanced Literacy, working with novice and struggling teachers. She is most proud of being recognized as Vocational Educator of the Year in 1990, finalist for the SBISD Teacher of the Year in 1999, and the SBISD Elementary Educator of the Year, 2007. Retiring from classroom teaching in 2013, Judi continues to be a part of the educational profession serving as one of The Monarch School’s Literacy Specialists, as well as an educational consultant for SBISD.
