Transition Services (Post Grad)

The Transition Services program serves young adult learners (ages 18 and older) in their development within the Four Core Goals. Pivotal to the Transition Services Program is Integrated Learning Practices to support continued application of the unique Monarch Four Core Goals in all areas of life.  Transition Services provides residential, academic, social and employability opportunities for Monarch graduates and other young adults in the community. Participation in Transition Services provides adults with a plan, opportunity for practice, and a place for their evolution into contributing citizens.

Day Program

The Transition Services Day Program provides opportunities for the learners to engage in a variety of therapeutic, educational, and vocational related activities throughout the course of the day. The program runs from 8:30-3:30 Monday-Friday. Each learner is assigned a “coach” who serves as their mentor and therapeutic support for their programming. They meet individually once a week with their coach. Our team generates an individualized schedule for each learner based on need, interest and strengths.

The program offers beneficial opportunities to develop in the areas of social, academic, and professional growth.  The learners participate in therapeutic groups where they primarily address the goals of Relationship Development and Self-Regulation/Self-Awareness. There are also enrichment opportunities including the Life Academy’s three enterprises (culinary, production, and business administration), art, woodworking, music therapy and newsletter that enable the learner to discover and harness marketable talents. We then support the learners in their journey towards employability by providing them with job coaching, as well as hands on community service opportunities that allow for the practice of project management skills, both on and off campus. Learners assist with event planning and host Friday socials once a month. Additionally, we provide academic support for individuals who are interested in post-secondary education.

Residential Program

Monarch Transition Services has a residential program for young adults who need assistance making the transition from living at home towards greater independence. We have both male and female houses that have room for three learners each with their own personal room and one faculty member. We also have an apartment program for learners who are ready for more independent self-management. Typically these are two bedroom/two bathroom apartments with a faculty member on-site. Both the houses and apartments are within walking distance of the campus. Residents enjoy an individualized program to support growth and competence in living apart from their parents. The focus is on teaching skills for daily living including hygiene, physical health, nutrition, money and time management. The residents also have a very busy activity calendar a few of which include professional sports games, day trips, bowling and local festivals. The residents enjoy sharing a meal together once a week in order to practice meal preparation and relationship development.

Transition Services Employability Program progresses in stages to ensure success; on-campus internships, off-campus externships, competitive wage earning employment. Adult learners attend Employability classes and access hands-on career training through Monarch’s Life Academy.  As students acquire skills, they move to either off-campus externships for additional skills training or paid employment. Careful consideration is applied to ensure adult learners are placed in appropriate employment positions based on personality type, sensory needs, aptitude, and ability. Monarch’s overarching goal for adult learners who are on the Employment Track is to acquire a paid position with a company that matches the learner’s temperament
