Julie Hummel, B.S.

Associate Director of Academics
Director's Team

Julie is a native Houstonian, married and has two adult daughters. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She recently retired from serving 29 years in public education with 27 of those years in Spring Branch ISD.

Julie taught middle and high school sciences for 18 years. Fifteen of those years she served as department chairman, or team leader, coordinated the A.V.I.D. program for her campus and served on district curriculum writing teams. She then stepped out of the classroom to serve as an instructional coach for the teachers at Spring Woods High School. As an instructional coach she led teachers in the analysis of teaching practices, student test scores, and curriculum and worked with them to create lesson plans, develop materials and to apply the best teaching strategies for the students that they served.

After working several years with the teachers at Spring Woods High School Julie moved into a district role as she coordinated the secondary science program for Spring Branch. In this role she collaborated with educators, principals, and other school and district administrators as she led the process of curriculum evaluation, design, and development for the secondary sciences. The development process included content development based on state standards and desired learning outcomes, vertical alignment, development of aligned assessments and consideration of methods and strategies to reach all learners. She also led the development and training of content and curriculum to teachers. In her last three years in Spring Branch, Julie coordinated all professional learning for the district and worked with a team to build a district wide professional learning framework to personalize professional learning.
In her spare time Julie enjoys fishing of any kind, camping, exploring nature and spending time with her family and her church community.
