Our keynote speaker, Rachel Moran, is coming to share her story. After a late-in-life diagnosis in college which some doctors said might just be untreatable, Rachel set out on a journey of insight and rehabilitation. The Monarch School was just one part of the path to overcoming. Join us as she shares what it was like, what happened, and what it is like now!

With all the focus on IEP’s and academics, we sometimes miss one of the real goals of all this instruction – future employment. Join us to learn ways to start preparing your child for future employment no matter their age.  You can start as young as elementary to prepare them for employment, but if that time has passed long ago, don’t worry – it is never too late!!! In this session we will discuss tips and tricks to help our learners find meaningful employment opportunities.

In recent years we have become aware of the relationship between our gut health and our wellbeing. Holistic nutrition looks to address this relationship. Melinda’s studies with Harvard Medical School explain the six pillars of lifestyle medicine and the way they impact our wellbeing. Melinda will discuss the evidence connecting what we eat, and a health filled life.

Robin Rettie, Former Monarch Director of Transition Services, shares her life experience growing of as a sibling to Laurie Lorraine Rettie (LLR), her sister born Microcephalic. Throughout her 48 years directly supporting individuals with varying abilities, Robin has witnessed tremendous growth and opportunities for individuals who learn at a different pace and in their own way.

What are your dreams for your adult child; college, trade school, employment, living independently or in a group supported home, and what about love and marriage? More importantly, what are your child's dreams for adulthood?

For all children, planning for adulthood begins early in life. Do you wonder how your child with varying abilities will reach adulthood prepared? Has it been a concern knowing what and how much support should be considered to maximize social, emotional, and academic learning? Should you make all the choices for your child or should your child make guided choices? What if your child makes mistakes, who should fix their mistake!?

There is so much to think about, or are you making raising your child with varying abilities more challenging than it should be? Raising a child is demanding, but it's best to have fun as you both team up to plan for the future. Let's find out how you can and should step back while establishing expectations to let your child manage their life choices with guidance.
