Programs

We believe that quality education and supports must be learner-centered and inspire intrinsic motivation. Our approach is consistent with the psychological research and framework for school design and reform described in the American' Psychological Association’s “Top 20 Principles for Pre-K to 12 Education.” We designed our programs so that they focus on the critical, cognitive, motivational and affective factors that contemporary research suggests determines success in school and life. Our Therapeutic Coaches and Professional Educators work “hand in hand” and “side by side” developing and implementing Individual Therapeutic Educational Plans ensuring every student and adult learner receives a balanced approach to a therapeutic education allowing our students and adult learners to find their best life today and beyond.

  • The Caterpillar Center at The Monarch School serves students ages 3–6 (at the time of enrollment) who require a higher level of support prior to classroom integration. The center beautifully blends naturalistic developmental behavioral interventions with foundational early childhood experiences to support each learner's unique journey. Depending on their individualized needs, students may receive 1:1 support from a Registered Behavior Technician. All Caterpillar students participate in integrated Occupational, Speech, and Music Therapies with the supportive intention of eventually transitioning into another Monarch classroom.

  • The Chrysalis program addresses opportunities for growth in the development of regulation, sensory motor coordination, language, relationships, and academics. Chrysalis is self-contained and serves students 3 years of age through middle school grades with a goal of increasing independence. Classrooms are highly structured environments with Monarch faculty in small ratios as low as 2:1. Speech-Language, Occupational, and/or Music Therapies, as well as a summer program, are included.

  • The Butterfly Wings program serves individuals who require a high level of support to meet their goals. The program is designed to offer low student-to-faculty ratios, striving for 2:1 ratio to support students with unusually complex developmental challenges who will also benefit from intensive practice in independence and functional academic skills to develop skillsets and competencies supporting access to the greater community. Therapies are available.

  • The Butterfly Bridge program is geared towards students in the middle and high school years who are ready to engage in the greater community and experience transitions throughout the day. The intention is to increase independent practice, executive functioning, and relationship development for students as they learn the structure and expectations of a traditional school experience. They start to rotate classes but do so within cohorts. Class ratios for academics are up to 6:1, and electives are up to 9:1. Therapies are available.

  • The Butterfly program is geared towards students entering the middle school and high school years who require minimal support in self-regulation, executive functioning, and relationship development but require more practices to transition seamlessly into the community and next phases beyond high school. All students in the Butterfly program have opportunities to increase academic competencies and volunteer in the greater community to build social interactions and enhance employability skills. Opportunities to explore career interests, postsecondary education, employment, and resume building are a part of the experience. Each learner navigates an individual schedule. Therapies are available.

  • The EMERGE program is postsecondary and directed toward transition to adult-related competence. Individualized learning plans are developed and practiced, supporting employability training, transitional readiness, and/or higher education opportunities. On-campus internships and employment opportunities are available based on student interest and school need. Support for adults engaged in postsecondary or trade school opportunities are available.. • The EMERGE 18+ program is designed for young adults ages 18 to 25 living with neurological differences. This day program provides targeted training and support for up to three years to prepare learners for adult living. Utilizing transition assessments and a person-centered approach, the program partners with families to develop individualized plans focused on four cornerstones: Community Engagement, Lifelong Learning, Vocational Training, and Social-Emotional Wellbeing. With a structured 3:1 student-to-teacher ratio, learners build the prerequisite skills needed to successfully transition into Monarch’s other adult programs, residential living, or the greater community.

  • The Residential program serves learners ages 18 and up in homes or apartments in the greater community near campus and focuses primarily on living as independently as possible. Regular social opportunities and living a healthy lifestyle are incorporated in the program as well.

As parents, witnessing our child flourish brings us immeasurable joy, and we attribute his success to the Monarch School.
